Unicode

Copying and pasting your message into the platform, rather than typing your message from scratch, can often result in UNICODE in your message. Punctuation (in particular) can result in adding these invisible characters, causing the length of your message to increase.

Unicode characters are made up of more than 1 normal character, therefore they have a higher character value. If you copy and paste Unicode into the body of your message, you will notice the character count of your message jump dramatically.

Non-GSM (Unicode) characters change the character limit of your SMS:

1 – 70 characters = 1 Message

71 – 134 characters = 2 Messages

135 – 201 characters = 3 Messages

202 – 268 characters = 4 Messages

269 – 335 characters = 5 Messages

336 – 402 characters = 6 Messages

403 – 469 characters = 7 Messages

470 – 536 characters = 8 Messages

You’ll be prompted if there are any Unicode characters in your message, giving you an opportunity to remove them before sending if you wish.

All emojis are considered Unicode characters.
