Opt outs

Once you have permission from your recipient to send them marketing or promotional material via SMS (permission can be in the form of membership, sign up, or opt-in), you must provide them with the ability to unsubscribe (Opt Out) from future communication.

 

Legislation

Before sending any marketing or promotional SMS, be sure to check your local legislation and guidelines regarding consent, opt-out, and identification.

Only the following types of organisations are able to send SMS to recipients without consent:

  • government bodies
  • registered charities
  • registered political parties
  • educational institutions (for messages sent to current and former students).
